On December 7, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia, member of YABLOKO’s faction Andrei Rogalevich went on a hunger strike during the plenary meeting of the Karelian parliament where the draft of the regional budget for 2017 was being considered in the second reading. According to the deputy, he decided to go on a hunger strike in order to defend the interests of his voters in the Segezha district since the pro-governor’s majority of deputies refused to support the amendment on financing the reconstruction of non-residential premises into a child health centre, situated in the Segezha city. YABLOKO Chair Emilia Slabunova asks Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika to take action of prosecutorial response in connection with the situation on the Valaam Island, Karelia. The state unlawfully transferred to the church a building with residential apartments, virtually depriving people of their lodgings. An initiative group of residents applied to YABLOKO for help. What a strange deal: 19.5 per cent of Rosneft shares were sold to the Qatar Investment Fund (the Qatar Investment Authority) and Swiss trader Glencore for € 10.2 billion. The Qatari fund will invest € 2.5 billion, and Glencore only € 300 million for an equal stake. The remaining amount will be provided by the Italian bank Intensa Sanpaolo. But according to Glencore, Russian banks will actively help both with finance and loans. Read more »

On December 12, the Constitution Day, activists of the Novosibirsk branch of Yabloko Youth Kirill Maryin and Svetomir Yun conducted a series of one-person pickets in order to remind the citizens of their constitutional right to choose the alternative military service instead of the obligatory conscription. The YABLOKO party will appeal to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Central Electoral Commission on the facts of election fraud in the city of Mytishchi, the Moscow Region, revealed by newspaper Novaya Gazeta. Today the newspaper has published its investigation demonstrating that the results of the election to the State Duma and the Duma of the Moscow Region that took place on 18 September were faked at least 70 per cent of polling stations. YABLOKO Chair Emilia Slabunova sent an official appeal to the Central Electoral Commission asking to retain videos from the polling stations for a least a year after the official announcement of the results of elections to the State Duma. Now the regional electoral commissions are allowed to independently determine the term of storing such videos, and often this term amounts only for a few months. Read more »
Sergei Mitrokhin, leader of Moscow YABLOKO and candidate at the Moscow mayoral elections in 2013, voiced during yesterday’s live broadcast of the Russian News Service radio his desire to run for the Moscow Mayor in 2018. He also noted during that other mayoral candidates for the 2013 election “have now forgotten about Moscow and we do not hear anything about them anymore”. “What do they do for Moscow? What problems do they raise? They addressed Moscow problems [in 2013], only because they wanted to take the post of [Moscow] Mayor, but I wanted to become Mayor, because had been trying to solve Moscow problems [all this time]”, Mitrokhin said.
