The party renders legal assistance to protesters in Moscow and Russian regions.
On 26 March, demonstrations and rallies against corruption were held across the country, many of such actions ended in the detention of participants. Moscow demonstrated a record high number of detainees – over 1,000 people. There is a large number of minors in the police stations. YABLOKO, along with human rights organisations, calls for the release of detainees and provides them legal assistance.
Today, YABLOKO Chair Emilia Slabunova, handed over to Ella Pamfilova, Chair of the Central Electoral Commission, a package of amendments that the party proposes to introduce into the electoral legislation. The document contains over 40 proposals concerning all aspects of the electoral process.
Boris Vishnevsky, head of Yabloko’s faction in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, said that his faction would insist on the city parliament’s approval of a referendum on the future of St. Isaac’s Cathedral museum. Read more »
On 24-26 March, School of Local Self-Government was held for activists of the Pskov branch of YABLOKO. The School was organised by the team of Yulia Galyamina, a research associate of the Moscow State University and a teacher at the Higher School of Economics, Moscow. Galyamina is also a co-founder of the public organisation Friends of the Park Dubki and was a candidate for the Moscow City Duma in 2014 and a candidate for the State Duma from YABLOKO.Read more »
On March 30 – April 2, the Green Party of England and Wales will host the first ever joint congress between the Global Greens and the European Green Party gathering environmentalists from all over the world to hold political debates. The event will take place in Liverpool. Read more »

Adviser to Yabloko Chairperson Galina Shirshina gave a lecture on local self government at an urban development forum in Omsk. She spoke about the history of local self government, its role and significance, characterised the current situation with local self government, shared her experience as mayor of Petrozavodsk, spoke about the problems she had faced and presented Yabloko’s initiatives on the reform of local self government.
On 22 March, the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg adopted the bill “On Amendments to the Budget Law of St. Petersburg” in the second reading. Grigory Yalvinsky developed the bill when he was MP in the St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly and head of the YABLOKO faction in the city parliament of the previous convocation. The bill was submitted to the city parliament in December 2015. However, the Legislative Assembly envisaged a very long term – until 1 July 2016, further extended until February 2017 – for submitting amendments to the bill. If the law is adopted, the budget process will become more transparent. Read more »
Six Russian servicemen were killed in the Chechen Republic, some wounded, including hard. The federal media reported that it was a terrorist attack and that the responsibility for the attack was assumed by the Islamic State. However, none of the leaders of the country spoke up and publicly explained what had happened. The head of the Investigative Committee did not take the investigation under control. The heads of the Federal Security Service, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs keep silent. It is unlikely that you may read the official condolences to the families of the killed and the names of the victims.Read more »

On 23 March, the Legislative Assembly of Karelia rejected the draft federal laws submitted by Emilia Slabunova, MP of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia and leader of the YABLOKO party, on the reform of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the abolition of the “municipal filter” in the gubernatorial elections. Head of Yabloko’s faction in the Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg Boris Vishnevsky claims that the pressure on the parliamentary opposition is mounting. On 22 March, the ruling United Russia party deputies introduced alternations in the time limit – according to the new rules, an adjournment of a session will be announced only by a majority vote. With this decision, the ruling party acutely prevents the opposition factions from the possibility of taking an adjournment. Read more »
The court arrested Kirill Bobro, an activist of the Stavropol branch of Yabloko Youth, for two months. He is a young, active, talented, promising man… [He is persecuted] because he had an opinion of his own and expressed it openly, he held protest actions against corruption and actions to commemorate Boris Nemtsov, picketed the regional office of the Federal Security Service demanding to stop the persecution of political activists in Stavropol. The meeting of the Federal Council of YABLOKO, the most representative body of the party, worked in Moscow on 18-19 March. Chair of the party Emilia Slabunova and Deputy Chair Nikolai Rybakov summarised the results of the elections to the State Duma in 2016 and told how YABLOKO should change. Grigory Yavlinsky, YABLOKO presidential candidate, made a statement that if he is elected, the state should gratuitously transfer land to Russian citizens under construction of their own homes, as well as create a system of accounts where revenues from the exports of natural resources and dividends from state corporations would be transferred to some categories of citizens. The Law enforcement in the Stavropol Territory have been putting pressure on YABLOKO’s activists for years trying to reduce political activity in the region by means of threats and intimidation.
In February 2017 the law enforcement actively hindered the planning of the rally in memory of politician Boris Nemtsov, and YABLOKO’s young activists Kirill Bobro and Anastasia Antonets were among the organisers of the action. The officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB), in particular, informed Anastasia Antonets’ parents that their daughter might face serious problems if she did not give up political activity immediately.
