Alarming news come from the Caucasus. In Karabakh there are active military actions with already a lot of victims from both the Azerbaijani and the Armenian side. Perhaps it is Turkey that has been tacitly pushing Baku to a military conflict with Yerevan. Russia has obligations before Armenia under the Collective Security Treaty (CSTO), and therefore, can not stay away. Thus, Turkey may try to draw Russia into another war and distract it from the zone of its interests in Syria. Read more »

A hate campaign has been unleashed against Mikhail Kasyanov. The state has set an entire pack on him: the Federal Security Service with its wiretapping, peeping and informers, the Ministry of Interior with provocatively inactive and posing police, unbridled paid “public activists” who look like criminals, and, certainly, the state television in the form of the NTV channel which has been specially coached for political trash… All against one! It has turned 16 years since Vladimir Putin came in power. He was appointed President not least in order to ensure the inviolability of the fraudulent results of privatisation – almost free transfer of the most profitable state-owned assets to a ‘narrow circle of friends’ via the so-called ‘loans for shares’ auctions. This arrangement has been maintained until recently: the oligarchs who know well how they got the property were ‘milked’, frightened, blackmailed and even imprisoned, but the principles of criminal scheme of assets distribution were not questioned.
