On Wednesday the Central Electoral Commission registered a group of YABLOKO election representatives at the elections to the State Duma – one of them is Vladimir Voinovich, a renowned writer, author of the novels “Moscow 2042” and “The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin”.
Svetlana Gannushkina, renown human rights defender and head of YABLOKO regional group in Chechnya in the parliamentary election, and Sergei Kovalyov, her representative, famous human rights defender, member of YABLOKO Federal Political Committee and Co-Chair of YABLOKO Human Rights Faction, are going to call Ramzan Kadyrov, head of Chechnya and candidate for the State Duma from the United Russia party, on the pre-election debate. The use of referendums to solve the issues of public importance in Moscow has become a major topic of YABLOKO election campaign in the capital of Russia. At the moment the officials make any decisions concerning the urban development of Moscow without regard to the opinion of the residents. The Electoral Commission of St. Petersburg approved of YABLOKO’s motion on a referendum against the decision to name the bridge across the Duderhof canal after Akhmad Kadyrov, former Chechen President, unanimously. The motion will be referred for consideration of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, which will decide whether the questions proposed by the initiative group should be put to a referendum within 20 days. A terrorist attack taking the lives of 334 people, including 186 children, happened in Belsan, [North Ossetia], twelve year ago. We express our deepest sorrow and condolences to all the relatives and friends of the innocent victims. Terrorism and terrorists taking the lives of innocent people can not be justified.
