According to Mikhail Amosov, leader of the St. Petersburg YABLOKO and MP in St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly from the YABLOKO faction, election of Patriarch Kirill honorary citizen of St. Petersburg can be regarded as a kind of compensation to the church for preservation of the museum in St. Isaac’s Cathedral. The residents of the city loudly protested when a the city authorities announced their decision to transfer the cathedral to the church, which also envisaged closure of the famous museum of the St.Isaac’s. Several mass-scale rallies against the decision were held in the city, the largest rally gathered about 5,000 people. Read more »

The Bureau of the St. Petersburg branch of YABLOKO claims the necessity of regaining competition in the gubernatorial election by changing the current system of gubernatorial elections. In the first place, YABLOKO suggests that all the parties which have factions in regional parliaments must have the ability to nominate their candidate in the gubernatorial election without the municipal filter [the process by which a mayoral candidate gets signatures of the municipal lawmakers to become a candidate] and other artificial barriers. Mikhail Gorbachev gave freedom to hundred millions of people. The freedom for which a few people [dared] to fight and all the rest did not even dream of it. It is unbelievable but the genius General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union suddenly decided that one must not imprison a person for what he thinks or says. When the real freedom of speech appeared, the system which was built on lies collapsed. Mikhail Gorbachev gave [us] freedom. But the way it was used has nothing to do with him. Therefore, one must not have hard feelings against him.
Now we need your experience in protection of human rights, in reviving an honest civil sense within the society, in the ability to carry on a tough and principled dialogue with the authorities more than ever. Moscow Yabloko Youth deputy Chair Maria Efimova and regional council member Victor Petrunin have held picketing in support of arrested leader of Stavropol Yabloko Youth Kirill Bobro outside the FSB security service headquarters in Moscow today. Kirill was sentenced to three days in jail for organising a one-person picket against the persecution of opposition in Stavropol, south Russia. Read more »

Today the court has sentenced Kirill Bobro, the leader of the Stavropol branch of Yabloko Youth, to three days in jail for organising a one-person picket by the FSB security service office in Stavropol, south Russia. YABLOKO activists from many regions of the country formed a column under the banner of the party. The key slogan of YABLOKO was “No to Political Terror!”. Two years ago Boris Nemtsov was murdered. He was a free, fearless and active citizen, a politician, and a bright personality. It was a purely political murder committed in the most political place in Russia: by the Kremlin walls. This murder had a political goal: to intimidate the Russian society and show that this would happen to anyone opposing the government. Read more »

Police has detained Kirill Bobro, YABLOKO Youth leader in Stavropol, south Russia, and two party activists. The law enforcement claim that the picket, which the activists held for days ago by the FSB security service building , had not been authorized by the city hall.
