Deputy of the Pskov Region Legislative Assembly, Chair of the Pskov branch of Yabloko Lev Shlosberg proposed to adopt a draft law on the withdrawal of a municipal filter for gubernatorial candidates from the parties, which have representation in the State Duma or regional parliaments. Shlosberg introduced the draft law with the proposal before the Pskov Region parliament. If the bill is passed by the regional deputies, the initiative will be considered by the State Duma. Dmitry Myakshin, 17-year-old activist of the St. Petersburg Youth Yabloko, was arrested at the protest action in St.Petersburg on 12 June. He is suspected of attacking a police officer during the action. At the same time, it is clear from the video of Myakshin’s detention that he did not attack anyone – the policeman got injuries while falling on the ground trying to detain the teenager. Also a search was conducted in Myakshin’s home.

The day of 12 June was first celebrated as Russia’s Independence Day.

This was strange for many people: from whom was this independence? In fact, by adopting the Declaration of Sovereignty on this day in 1990, Russia proclaimed its independence from the totalitarian communist rule and declared itself be a state where power belonged to a free people. As the country was turning into a state of bureaucrats (today there are almost 1.5 times more bureaucrats per capita in Russia than in a highly centralised USSR), and was more and more inheriting the lawlessness and arbitrariness of the Soviet system, the bureaucrats who got the power, decided it was they who were Russia. In fact, everything is vice versa. Russia means people living in our country, people whom these bureaucrats should serve – all of them without exception, up to top officials and the President. But we still do not have this, and therefore, the Day of Russia will become a real holiday only when the country is freed from lawlessness, arbitrariness of the bureaucracy and the state’s lies. Today, on 14 June, Sergei Mitrokhin, leader of the Moscow branch of YABLOKO and head of the Moscow Rescue Committee, and ten other participants of the action against the demolition of five-story buildings in Moscow have been detained by the State Duma. The protest was timed to consideration by the State Duma of the bill on “renovation” in the third reading. According to Mitrokhin, the detention was unlawful: he stood in a one-person picket, while the other participants of the action did not hold any posters in their hands. Sergei Mitrokhin stressed that protest actions against the destructive project of the Moscow authorities would go on.

UPD 3. 14.40: Sergei Mitrokhin and Anton Antonov-Ovseyenko were accused of violation of the procedure of public actions organization (paragraph 5, article 20.2 of the Administrative Violation Code of Russia). It means they may be fined 10,000 – 15,000 thousand roubles or get up to 40 hours of community service. The court hearing will take place on 29 June.

Mitrokhin claims he did not violate the law because one-person pickets do not need authorisation.

UPD 2. 12.40: Sergei Mitrokhin and Anton Antonov-Ovseyenko have been detained for the second time today. Police is taking them to the Tverskoye police department. Mitrokhin was detained for taking a placard away from the women whom the police wanted to detain for holding a one-person picket. Due to this police let her go but detained Mitrokhin.

UPD 1. Sergei Mitrokhin and Anton Antonov-Ovseyenko have been released in an hour. Mitrokhin says they were released due to the mass protest against the actions of police.

Police have detained Chair of Moscow Yabloko Sergei Mitrokhin and head of Moscow Yabloko’s community liaison office Anton Antonov-Ovseyenko by the State Duma during the protest action against the housing renovation programme developed by the government. The State Duma deputies are considering the draft law in the second reading today. At the moment Mitrokhin and Antonov-Ovseyenko are in the police a police van.
