Leader of the Crimean Tatars Mustatfa Dzhemilev is not allowed to enter Russia for five years term. The decision was taken by Federal Security Service representative in accordance with Subparagraph 1 Part 1 Article 27 of the Federal Law No 114 which states “a foreign citizen or a stateless person shall be refused a permission to enter in the Russian Federation if this is necessary for the purpose of ensuring the defensive capability or security of the state or public order or protecting the health of the general public”. An action against amendments to Moscow laws which limit the rights of Moscow City Duma deputies was held outside Moscow City Duma on June 25. The amendments are also called “deprofessionalizing”. The amendments were introduced yesterday and considered today at a special session. The amendments were supported by 32 deputies out of 35. When the Mayor signs the bill and it is published they new law will come into effect.

St.Petersburg YABLOKO will discuss nomination of the party candidate to run in the gubernatorial elections in St. Petersburg at the meeting of the federal Bureau of the Party at the end of the week. Such a statement was made by Grigory Yavlinsky, leader of the YABLOKO faction in St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly, at the final press conference in the Interfax North-West Press Centre before summer vacations in the city parliament. He noted that the situation with a “municipal” filter which candidates have to overcome to run in the election was manifestation of arbitrary rule depriving the election of any competition. All the candidates have to gather 5 – 10 per cent of municipal deputies’ votes in 75 per cent of all the municipalities so that to be registered in the race. This filter virtually deprives oppositional candidates of any chances to run giving all the opportunities to the ruling United Russia party. According to Yavlinsky elections would turn illegitimate, if such a famous politician as Oksana Dmitriyeva could not run. Read more »

Grigory Yavlinsky supported the proposal made by Russian President Vladimir Putin to cancel the decision of the Federation Council “to use the armed forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine” and expressed cautious optimism in this respect. Yavlinsky noted that this decision would become a good prologue to an international conference on the resolution of the conflict offered by the State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin a day before. Youth YABLOKO activists Alan Alikov from North Ossetia and Kirill Bobro from the Stavropol Region were detained by police today during one-person pickets in support of the prisoners of the Bolotnaya rally case. One-person pickets do not need any permits from the authorities, thus arrests were absolutely unlawful.

The action was conducted on the threashold of the court hearings of the appeal on the “first wave” of the Bolotanaya rally case. Youth YABLOKO activists from the Krasnodar Territory, Nizhni Novgorod, North Ossetia, the Stavropol Territory, Ekaterinburg also conducted a series of one-person pickets on that day.

The conference of the Tatarstan branch of YABLOKO nominated candidates to run in the elections to the State Council of the Republic. The mixed electoral system will be used: 50 candidates entered the party list and 50 candidates were nominated in the electoral districts. On June 11, a new book by Evgeny Bunimovich, Moscow Ombudsman for Children, YABLOKO Political Committee member, ex deputy of the Moscow City Duma and teacher of mathematics, entitled “When the sky was laid with asphalt” was launched at YABLOKO’s main office. The book was entitled after the first line of his poem written in 1980s.
