Position on Some Important Strategic Issues of Russian-American Relations
Moscow, July 7, 2009

Certainly, there are prerequisites for full-scale cooperation, as both Russia and the USA largely belong to the European culture and civilization. The tragedies of the 20-th century have split our world, however, the policies of the 21st century have to bring it together again on the basis of shared values. This requires much effort, but the result is worth it. The good will of our society (rather than a history’s whim or a blind chance) made possible the deconstruction the totalitarian system. This fact demonstrates that freedom and democracy are as important for the Russian citizens, as for the Americans. Whatever complicated situations we have to face in the future, it should be borne in mind that Russians are the people capable of understanding Americans. The main thing which the US President can do here is to try to understand Russia and its people.

SERGEI MITROKHIN’S SPEECH AT THE MEETING WITH US PRESIDENT BARAK OBAMA Key Notes
Moscow, July 7, 2009

Discussion of strategic partnership between our countries has been held for a long time, however, little has been done for realization of this goal. Today we have a favourable moment for filling the idea with real actions. Cooperation in solution of international and global problems in many fields is on the agenda now. We think that such cooperation could become a real alternative to the neoimperialist projects and approaches that are today “en vogue” with the Russian political and military elite.

September 13, 2002

We consider that President Putin's political declaration, who warned the Georgian leadership on the seriousness of the situation, is acceptable. Statement
On the results of President Putin's first two years in office of

The Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO Federal Council Bureau, March 29, 2002
The main achievement of President Putin can be summed up as his foreign policy which is aimed at a rapprochement with the West. The President chose to follow this policy despite resistance from the political elite and his entourage. The direction of current foreign policy could have strategic prospects and become a prologue to Russia's transformation into a European state in the broadest sense of the word - from observation of human rights to the level of the population's welfare.

Declaration on the Verdict to Grigory Pasko
The Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO
December 25, 2001

The Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO thinks that the verdict of the Pacific Fleet Court on Grigory Pasko reflects the imperfections in the whole of the law-enforcement system of the Russian Federation and is at variance with the spirit of the Constitution. Owing to an unreasonable system of imposing top secret libel on virtually everything, anyone who attempts to inform the public of environmental dangers caused by the poor economic performance of state structures may end up in prison.

Speech of the Chairman of the Yabloko Association Grigory Yavlinsky at the meeting in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Acad. Andrei Sakharov
May 20, 2001
... his most important precept was on morality in politics. Andrei Dmitrievich realised that appealing to politicians with a request or demand to be moral is an absolutely hopeless thing. That is why he formulated this somewhat differently. He said that moral positions in politics are most practical and most reasonable. Certainly if the goal is not only personal welfare, but, at least to some extent, the prospects for the country and its future; if the goals include how children and grand-children will live in our country...

The Yabloko faction does not support Mikhail Kasyanov’s Government and believes that it should resign. Declaration on the State Hymn

December 7, 2000

The whole of the Yabloko faction will vote against the law to approve the music of the USSR hymn as the hymn of Russia. The deputies of the faction think that the issue of legislative approval of state symbols is inopportune. It would only be timely, after resolving the most acute economic and political problems of the country. The extremely low living standards of most Russian citizens, the energy crisis in Maritime Territory and the ongoing war in Chechnya demonstrate that today we are far from this.

Declaration of the Yabloko faction

November 30, 2000
At a meeting of the State Duma of November 29, 2000, the Yabloko faction voted unanimously against an amendment that allows the heads of Russian Federation subjects to be elected for a third term. The deputies of the faction are familiar with the situation in some regions, whose heads would like to be granted a third term. These people have virtually subjugated all branches of power to themselves, suppressed independent mass media and set up their own controls over the electoral process, thereby engineering their re-election, irrespective of actual voting intentions.

Today it is obvious to everybody that the situation in Maritime Territory is on the verge of a humanitarian disaster. Virtually all the main life support systems of the Territory are in a critical condition. The fuel crisis has affected most districts and settlements. This is only part of the systematic crisis that has embraced our energy system, housing and communal services and the budget sphere of the territory. The situation has recurred every year, but has deteriorated each time.

Address to the President of the RF Vladimir Putin

The Yabloko Association, The 9th Congress
October 28, 2000

Most respected Vladimir Vladimirovich,

For many years Yabloko association has been preoccupied with the resolution of one of the most acute problems of Russian society – the problem of military reform. Four years ago the first President of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, promised Russian citizens that from 2000 onwards our army would be built on a contract basis, and that the military conscription system would be a relic of the past. His words remained mere words.

The number of individuals who have managed over the past decade to create things rather than destroy them is extremely low in our country. Yavlinsky's Letter to Yeltsin
Open letter to the President of Russia from Grigoriy Yavlinsky on behalf of the Yabloko public association: "Yabloko has reminded the guarantor that he is the guarantor"
Dear Boris Nikolayevich, We consider it our duty to call your attention to the glaring illegalities in a number of republics that are a part of the Russian Federation. We are uncomfortable with the composure, which at times develops into open support, with which you, who call yourself the guarantor of the Constitution, contemplate the outrages of the regional authorities in a number of components of the Russian Federation.

Fourth Congress of the Association Yabloko. Address to voters and all participants in the voters' initiative of Grigory Yavlinsky

June 23, 1996
Dear Friends! Thank you to everyone who participated in the June 16 election and voted for our candidate Grigory Yavlinsky. Thanks to you, Yabloko showed its resilience despite the fact that the powerful government propaganda machine was working against us and in disregard of the law. We received 700,000 votes more than in the December 1995 parliamentary election, and 1.3 million more than in 1993. In all, 5.5 million voters supported us.

Appeal of the Fourth Congress of the Association Yabloko to President Boris Yeltsin

June 23, 1996
Dear Boris Yeltsin! The Congress of the Association Yabloko thanks you for your greetings and considers it an asset in the establishment of normal constitutional relations between the power in Russia and the democratic opposition. The Congress has concluded that the threat of a return to power by the Communists is a reality in the second round of the presidential elections, and we consider this absolutely unacceptable.
