The 4th Congress of Yabloko

Fourth Congress of the Association Yabloko. Address to voters and all participants in the voters' initiative of Grigory Yavlinsky

Moscow, 23 June 1996

Dear Friends!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the June 16 election and voted for our candidate Grigory Yavlinsky. Thanks to you, Yabloko showed its resilience despite the fact that the powerful government propaganda machine was working against us and in disregard of the law. We received 700,000 votes more than in the December 1995 parliamentary election, and 1.3 million more than in 1993. In all, 5.5 million voters supported us.

We understand that many of our voters - in order to prevent a victory for Gennady Zyuganov - will vote for Boris Yeltsin.

We are certain that all of you will make the appropriate choice in the second round of the presidential elections. As is stated in the documents of the Fourth Congress, we cannot support G. Zyuganov under any circumstances, and therefore we have posed a number of serious questions to B. Yeltsin which will inevitably determine our final position in regard to the June 3 elections.

Regardless of the outcome of the elections, we will remain by you and defend your interests. We will achieve our goal of improving the lives of the people, and we will strive to realize the basic foundation of the presidential program of Grigory Yavlinsky in all regions of Russia. Yabloko is backed up by a number of highly qualified economists, political scientists, lawyers, military personnel and administrators.

Our strength and our future is in your support. Submit your proposals for further cooperation to the organization Yabloko in all cities, government structures, and give the deputies of the State Duma your support. The institute EPItsenter, which is run by Grigory Yavlinsky, will also continue to work and work out other pressing problems in the regions of Russia.

Yabloko was and will remain a democratic organization in the defense of reform for the majority.

We wish you wisdom, courage and resilience.

Signed,
Grigory Yavlinsky,
Chairman of the association Yabloko
