| The Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO expresses its categorical
protest against canceling the elections of the head of the administration
of Shatura District, Moscow region.
At present the situation in the district is unprecedented: citizens are
being deprived of their constitutional right to elect local self-government.
Two days before the elections, which must take place on April 18, bulletins
have been confiscated and ballot stations have been sealed.
We are certain that the decision of the court to cancel the elections
was adopted on political motives to prevent the victory of the current
head of the district administration and leader of the election campaign
Arkady Parvitsky. A strong and independent politician and member of the
YABLOKO party, Parvitsky clearly does not fit into the vertical of the
power that the administration of Moscow region has been trying to construct.
After the pressure applied on Arkady Parvitsky did not yield any results,
his opponents came to the open, intervening in the election process.
Dubious court decisions and arbitrary rule of the bureaucrats have become
typical tools in the fight of the authorities with the disagreeable and
recalcitrant. However,this is the first time this tool has been used not
only to remove a stronger opponent, but also to deprive all residents
of the district of their constitutional right to choose.
The Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO will oppose the administrative arbitrary
rule and try to ensure the holding of free elections in Shatura district
as soon as possible.
