Press Release, 24.09.2019
The Kirov branch of Yabloko participated in the rally “For Environmental Rights” conducted within the All-Russian Day of Environmental Protest. Activists and supporters of the Yabloko party, including Polina Klyucharova, Alexander Amosov and Arthur Abashev, took part in the action. The rally participants opposed the construction of the Maradykovsky complex for processing chemical weapons and a landfill in the Arkhangelsk region.
The rally brought together about 100 people. The activists put barrels with stickers indicating hazardous and radioactive waste and held posters “No to the Maradykovsky Chemical Crematorium”, “Vyatka Is Not a Waste Dump! Stop the Garbage Arbitrariness ”, “Stop Shies”, “Against New Landfills, for Separate Collection and Processing of Garbage”.
The rally resulted in the adoption of a resolution. In the resolution the activists supported the closure of the EcoTechnoPark “Shies” in the Arkhangelsk region and opposed the construction of the Maradykovsky complex. Protesters also demanded a referendum.
It should be noted that on September 21 and 22, rallies, demonstrations, mass and one-person pickets were held against the construction of an ecotechnological park in the Arkhangelsk region for storing garbage that has to be transported to the region from Moscow, against construction of waste processing complexes of hazard classes 1 and 2 in the vicinity of settlements and in dangerous proximity to water bodies in the cities of Izhevsk and Kirov, and construction of incineration plants in Kazan and near Moscow. The protesters demanded to spend money on modern technologies for separate collection and processing of waste.
