The main publication of the European Union, "European
Voice" weekly, published by "The Economist" group, included
Grigory Yavlinsky in the list
of the 50 people with the greatest influence on the policies of the European
Union in 2003.
Grigory Yavlinsky was nominated in the category "non-European Union
citizens" for his "efforts to strengthen the democratization
and
modernisation of Russian society." Other nominations in this category
include Secretary-General of the UN Kofi Anan, Prime Minister of Serbia
Zoran Djindjic, US Defence Minister Donald Rumsfeld and US Trade
Representative Robert Zoellick.
The leading political expert and the present politicians of the European
Union chose the nominees. Readers, including the readers of the on-line
version of the weekly, will determine the winners in all the categories.
