Stop using judicial bodies to put pressure on Nikolai Dizhur
Press release, 19.12.2017
Moscow Yabloko Chair Sergei Mitrokhin and Chair of the Moscow Region branch of Yabloko Alexander Gunko released a statement in support of Nikolai Dizhur, a deputy of the municipal council in the Chekhov district, the Moscow Region. The Territorial Electoral Commission of the Chekhov district is trying to illegally deprive him of his mandate.
On 22 November, the Moscow Region Court refused to deprive Nikolai Dizhur of his mandate. The Territorial Electoral Commission is going to challenge the decision. Earlier the Central Electoral Commission of the RF acknowledged Nikolai Dizhur’s mandate.
Therefore, Yabloko claims that the territorial commission representatives’ actions are serving the interests of the current political environment not the law.
However, Yabloko expresses concern that the appeal may be sustained amid political pressure.
“Nikolai Dizhur is a constant opponent of Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyev and he has made over 100 inquiries within the period of three months after he was elected. We hope that the Moscow Region Court will resist political pressure and protect Nikolai Dizhur from arbitrary rule,” runs the statement.
