Presidential candidate Grigory Yavlinsky had a meeting with prospecting engineers

Presidential candidate Grigory Yavlinsky had a meeting with researchers from the Geotechnics and Engineering Survey Institute. According to Yavlinsky, Russia will become one of the leading countries only if the government respects applied science.
“Innovation in engineering is the foundation of a modern economy and a modern state. If a country wants to become one of the world leaders, the respect for science must become an absolute priority. All the policy of the state should be organised so that the people involved in prospecting engineering and scientific research felt protected. That would contribute to the creative potential of Russian engineers,” Yavlinsky said.
Yavlinsky also criticised the lack of financing of research institutes. “Such institutes must not beg for financing from illiterate officials,” he argued.
According to the politician, the government office must employ professionals. “The principle of devotion and loyalty must be replaced with professionalism, and the key thing here is to separate business from power,” Yavlinsky explained. The merger of business and power leads to catastrophes because corruption flourishes and the quality of project work drops.
