Yabloko launched an alternative national strategy to promote women’s interests. Party experts claim that the current strategy, which was adopted by the government in March, has a declarative character and contains no specific measures to promote gender equality. Yabloko will forward the alternative strategy, the bills developed by the party and the critique of the current strategy to the government by the end of spring.

On 26 April, on the 31st anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, environmental activists held one-person pickets by the main office of the Russian atomic energy ministry – the Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation in Moscow. YABLOKO’s Green Russia faction organised commemorative events in two dozen cities of Russia: St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Vladikavkaz, Voronezh, Yekaterinburg and others.Read more »
Everything is very serious with Crimea. Even France is discussing it a couple of days before its presidential elections. One of the top candidates, François Fillon, suggests holding an international conference on the Crimea. These proposals were expressed earlier: by British parliamentarians, by European politicians. Lev Shlosberg, MP from the YABLOKO party of the Pskov Region Legislative Assembl, applied to the Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service for the Pskov region asking the Service to institute proceedings under Article 16 of the Federal Law “On Protection of Competition” (prohibition of restricting competition agreements or concerted actions) in respect of the Administration of Pskov, and two companies OOO Tekhnodor and OOO UDS Pskov. It is assumed that there was a preliminary cartel agreement between the city government and the two companies on granting the companies a victory at the tenders for maintenance of public roads in Pskov. On 20 April, activists of the Moscow branch of YABLOKO held a series of one-person pickets by the State Duma protesting against the draft law initiated by Moscow government on “housing renovation” which the State Duma had to consider in the first reading. The law deprives Muscovites of their private property right, as well as violates all the city developing, sanitary and environmental norms.Read more »

In aftermath of the news homosexual concentration camps have been established in Chechnya – which met LI’s and worldwide condemnation – Russian LI member party, Yabloko, has expressed “serious concern about the threats of physical violence from the Chechen Republic” directed at the journalists of Novaya Gazeta, the newspaper that published the reports on violence and murders of LGBT people in Chechnya. This week, the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg adopted in the third reading amendments to the law on the budget process, developed by the Grigory Yalvinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of YABLOKO and ex-MP of the Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg. The amendments will improve budgetary discipline and effectiveness of budget spending in St. Petersburg. Experts believe that Yavlinsky’s proposals can be used in legislation of other regions.Read more »
The Public Chamber of the city of Pskov proposed to develop a municipal program People’s Budget. It envisages collection of proposals from the city residents (for example, on the necessary road repairs, improvement of streets, yards and buildings, opening of playgrounds and sports grounds for children). The initiators of the project offer residents of Pskov to apply to the city administration so that to include the solution of the communal problem in the future city development programme. There may be several sources of financing for the works: the municipal budget, investments of the project partners, and even funds from the residents.Read more »
On 17 April, Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the Omsk branch of YABLOKO, and activists of the regional party branch conducted picketing demanding from the city authorities to clean the city and create a favourable environment for city residents. Read more »

The Yabloko Anti-Corruption Policy Centre found signs of collusion between suppliers (a cartel) in public procurement to cover the work of the Governor, the Legislative Assembly and other authorities of the Rostov Region in the mass media for the amount of 158.5 million rubles (approximately 2.3 million Euro). Most of the state contracts for PR went to the company owned by Sergei Sheremetyev, assistant to a deputy of the City Duma of Rostov-on-Don from the ruling United Russia party. Sergei Mitrokhin, member of YABLOKO’s Federal Political Committee and head of the Anti-Corruption Policy Centre, demanded an investigation into the case and asked the Russian government to stop public procurement for public relations of state officials.Read more »

How can it be still unclear to someone that Syria is a trap for Russia? Russia was led into the Syrian trap by the stupidity of Russian foreign policy, its short-sightedness and adventurousness. Any further steps targeted at escalation of Russia’s military actions in Syria only aggravate our situation. The suspension of the memorandum envisaging the mechanisms to avoid incidents between the United States and Russia in Syria means that any stupidity or accident can now lead to a direct clash. Yabloko made a decision to open the Candidates Support Centre as part of preparation for local elections in Moscow, which will take place in September 2017. The Centre will function within Yabloko’s campaign headquarters. Read more »
