Is
Modernisation in Russia Possible? Interview
with Grigory Yavlinsky and Boris Titov by Yury Pronko,
"The Real Time" programme, Radio Finam, May
12, 2010
Now [we have learned that] the Russian military “are not yet” in Libya. They were not in Crimea in February 2014. And they have not been in Donbas for all these four years. They have left Syria for three times already. They are not [to be found] in the Central African Republic…
But there is a cemetery in the Leningrad region with a thousand of fresh graves under the numbers without names. There are, probably, [such cemeteries] in other places too… There are endless lies.
Now it is clear that Putin meant by the “positive picture” in our economy. Russian billionaires are world leaders in terms of growth rates! In 2018, the fortunes of the ten richest people in Russia grew by 10.8 per cent, and this is more than any other billionaire in the world! American oligarchs have fallen behind – they have 7.5 per cent, while the British have some shameful 3.4 per cent.
And you say “sanctions”.
Our congratulations to the winners of the “capitalist competition” [Russian oligarchs] Mikhelson, Timchenko and Alekperov!

Children are vicitms of grownups’ vices. Let the memory of those killed in Kerch be blessed.
We should have thought ahead on 18 March, of course [the presidential election 2018]. On that day Putin was given the mandate to raise the retirement age, raise taxes (increase the VAT), continue wars in Ukraine and Syria, international isolation, arms race, gubernatorial merry-go-round… It is a pity as everything has been clear from the beginning, and there was an alternative.
