On 24 April, members and supporters of the Omsk branch of Yabloko took part in the clean-up the environment action in the Zelyoniy Ostov (Green Island) park. The Yabloko activists helped caring residents of the city to clean up litter in the park.
“Omsk, which was once considered a garden city, has now turned into one of the dirtiest cities in Russia, the authorities have long forgotten that the city is not only the centre, but also the outskirts, which are buried not only in mud, but also in litter and garbage. The Mayor’s Office virtually withdrew from the maintenance of the urban environment, and there are spontaneous dumps, mountains of garbage that has not been removed for years, and is not removed in a timely manner. Winds raise garbage and sand over the heads of townspeople,” Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the Omsk branch of Yabloko, said.

“According to the residents, there are two levels of cleanliness in the city: the mud has frozen and the mud has dried up, or just eternal mud, which is under snow in winter, and under greenery in summer, which does not allow residents to see their city beautifully clean and well-groomed,” the leader of the regional Yabloko branch added.
