YABLOKO’s presidential candidate Grigory Yavlinsky visited the city of Vladimir to support the Time to Return a home anti-war campaign, which became part of his election campaign.
Grigory Yavlinsky arrived at the city centre to talk to Yabloko’s activists and the residents of Vladimir, who were taking much interest in the campaign.
“I am really interested in meeting the residents of Vladimir, Murom, Suzdal and Yuryev-Polsk. Such cities should be the centre of Russia’s politics,” Yavlinsky said.
The aim of the Time to Return Home campaign is to stop all military adventures, for instance, the interference into the civil war in Syria and concentrate on Russia’s domestic development, the political explained.
He noted that, according to Yabloko’s calculations, Russia had already spent over 100 billion roubles on the military operation in Syria. “4,73 billion roubles would suffice to provide all the people on the affordable housing waiting list in Vladimir with new housing, 22,4 billion roubles would suffice to repair all roads, over a billion roubles would suffice to raise doctors and teachers’ salaries by one third. 5,52 billion roubles would suffice to increase pensions by 5,000 roubles for a years’ period.”
He also emphasized that the campaign in Syria created a terrorist threat for Russia – terrorists move from Syria to Afghanistan, and then to Middle Asia towards our boarders.
At a press conference Yavlinsky said that the Time to Return Home slogan also had another meaning for the party. Yabloko fights for direct and free mayoral and gubernatorial elections. This struggle unites such outstanding politicians as Galina Shirshina, Dmitry Gudkov and Yevgeny Roizman. Yabloko presidential candidate criticised the ‘municipal filter” that prevents the party’s candidates for governors of the Novgorod, Sverdlovsk and Yaroslavl Regions from being registered as candidates.
Grigory Yavlinsky also visited The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin on the Nerl River, which was constricted by the order of prince Andrei Bogolubslky to commemorate his seventeen year old son who died after returning from a military campaign in the 12th century.
