Four Yabloko’s candidates withdrawn from the municipal elections in Moscow
The party claims that the decision is unlawful and will challenge it
Press release, 08.07.2017
The Savelovsky district court of Moscow withdrawn Yabloko’s candidates Anna Paderina, Nikita Krivonosov, Maria Solyenova and Artyem Zhyrokhov from the municipal elections. Upon preliminary information, the main ground for the withdrawal was the lack of the notarised lists of signatures collector, although, according to the law, candidates do not have to provide them. The decision was made upon the application of self-nominated candidates.
Earlier the electoral commission of the Sokol municipal unit had registered the candidates having found no grounds for refusal.
According to Nikolai Rybakov, Yabloko Deputy Chair and the head of Yabloko’s single election headquaters for the election campaigns of 2017-2018, the court decision is illegal and discredits the electoral process in the municipal units of Moscow.
At the same time, such developments were quite predictable. “Yabloko remained the third most popular political force in Moscow. Yabloko’s list of candidates for the State Duma received a second place in 2016. It is not surprising that Yabloko’s candidates became targets for such shady technologies,” he says.
Yabloko will challenge the decision of the court on the withdrawal of Yabloko’s candidates.
It is to be recalled that Yabloko nominated over a thousand candidates in 125 districts of Moscow.
