Yabloko nominated 1007 candidates for Moscow municipal elections
Press release, 07.07.2017
The conference of the Moscow branch of Yabloko nominated 1007 candidates in 125 districts for the Moscow municipal elections – an unexampled number of candidates for an opposition party.
On July 6, the delegates of the conference made a decision to nominate all the candidates who expressed a wish to participate in the election as Yabloko’s candidates and signed the Moscow Manifesto 2017. By signing the document, the candidates confirm their adherence to democratic values and undertake to work for a significant expansion of the powers of local self-government in Moscow.
“Nominating over a thousand candidates is a serious challenge to the authorities. When obstacles are put in our way, and they will be put, we will stand for our right to participate in the elections,” Grigory Yavlinsky, Chair of Yabloko’s Federal Political Committee, said.
Yabloko’s candidates will have to collect about 20 signatures in their district to go through the municipal filter except for the 17 districts where Yabloko has representation at the moment. Yabloko’s nominees who are running for the elections there do not have to collect signatures of local resident in order to be registered candidates.
