Boris Vishnevsky called upon public prosecutor’s office to protect Friedland Library
Boris Vishnevsky called upon the St. Petersburg public prosecutor’s office to run a check on the storage requirements of the unique books and manuscripts in the Friedland Library.
“The Friedland Library is a most precious and famous source. If it is fully or partially lost, it will be an irreplaceable loss for the Russian and global science,” runs the request by Vishnevsky, the head of Yabloko’s faction in St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly.
In 1892 Russian merchant and philanthropist Lev Friedland transferred his collection of unique books and manuscripts in Hebrew, Yiddish and Ladino to the possession of the Academy of Sciences.
However, now there are reposts that over 50,000 most rare handwritten and printed manuscripts are kept under the conditions threatening their existence.
