Alexander Shishlov elected for the post of St. Petersburg Ombudsman for another term

Alexander Shishlov was elected for the post of St.Petersburg Ombudsman for another term. His candidacy was supported by 47 deputies of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly.The Bureau of the St. Petersburg branch of YABLOKO and the party faction in the Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg supported the nomination of Alexander Shishlov, Human Rights Commissioner in St. Petersburg, for another term of office.
Alexander Shishlov was born on 28 July, 1955, in Leningrad. He graduated from the Mathematics and Mechanics (1977) and the Law (1994) Faculty of St. Petersburg (Leningrad) State University. He was elected a deputy of the State Duma of the 2nd and 3rd convocations. Full State Counsellor 1st Class of the Russian Federation. Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1984). Member of the St. Petersburg Union of Scientists (since 1989). On 4 April, 2012, the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg elected him Human Rights Commissioner of St. Petersburg. He had to suspend his membership in YABLOKO because of the new law provision prohibiting regional ombudsmen to be members of a party.
“Alexander Shishlov protects not only the social but also political rights of citizens. He has been very good in this job, we think that he is the best regional ombudsman,” Boris Vishnevsky, head of the YABLOKO faction in St.Peterburg’s Legislative Assembly, said.
