Ideological differences between the democratic parties can be eliminated if all the participants of the potential coalition will sign a single document. Such a statement was made by YABLOKO Chairman Sergei Mitrokhin to the Rosbalt correspondent.

According to Mitrokhin, the document entitled Coalition of Political Alternative is essential.

“If the coalition lacks clear principles in its basis, it will resemble a sand castle, but we want to build it on a solid ideological foundation,” Mitorkhin said. Enumerating the principles set out in the document, YABLOKO’s leader noted, in particular, that “we are tough opponents of nationalism, we believe that the politicians somehow flirting with the nationalists, for example, in the form of participation of “Russia for Ethnic Russians Only” marches should not be part of such a coalition.

According to the politician, this provision does not cut from YABLOKO’s coalition one of the opposition figures Alexei Navalny who participated in these “marches” provided “he could publicly acknowledge that it was wrong, it was a mistake.”

Mitrokhin also noted that “we have very clear position on the accession of the Crimea.” “We believe that this was an annexation and unlawful action”, he added.

Another plank of the document adopted by YABLOKO refers to the events of 1990s. “We believe that the merger of business and government, which then took place was unacceptable and it led to the discrediting of democracy. The consequences of this must be eliminated “, Mitrokhin said.

He concluded that another option for coalition of liberals through creation of a new party, even 18 of 24 months prior to the election, is in the present circumstances “a political suicide, and nothing will come out of it.”
