The Omsk branch of Yabloko to hold a rally “For the quality of life and a clean city”
Press Release, 20.01.2020
On 26 January, a rally “For the quality of life and a clean city, against air pollution” will be held in Omsk. The rally is organised by Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the Omsk branch of Yabloko, and is supported by the Omsk City Public Council. The rally will begin at 12.00.
“Dear Omsk residents, who are not indifferent to the environmental situation in our city. For three years we have been exposed to chemical attacks. For three years we have been writing complaints about the situation with air pollution. Exceeding of the maximum concentration limits [of air pollution] has been continuously registered in our city. For three years, supervisory authorities cannot establish real sources of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere and eliminate air pollution. The city is constantly covered with smog with the smell of burning, burnt rubber, mercaptan, hydrogen sulfide and other chemicals,” Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the Omsk Yabloko, noted. “Who will protect the population of a city with million of residents? The problem will not resolve itself. Residents should already understand that the future of the city depends only on them. We live here! We are for the environmental safety of our region. We are waiting for you at the rally!”
It should be noted that in 2017, air pollution in Omsk exceeded the norm by 400 times. The Omsk branch of Yabloko regularly holds protests against air pollution, in addition, Chair of the regional branch Tatyana Nagibina is the author of the petition “We want to breathe!”. In October 2019 the residents of Omsk went on a protest action against air pollution organised with the support of Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the regional branch of the party. Tatyana Nagibina published an investigation on the construction of a phenol plant in Omsk, and Yabloko members also inspected the industrial area of the city.
