Press Release, 16.10.2019
Members and supporters of the Omsk branch of Yabloko took part in an environmental rally against urban air pollution. The protest rally was organised with the support of Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the regional branch of the party.
The rally participants demanded that the authorities find sources of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, hold those responsible for air pollution accountable, and also opposed the construction of new hazardous chemical plants for the production of phenol in Omsk. It should be noted that 380 people signed under the resolution of the rally.
Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the Omsk branch of Yabloko, noted that an agreement was signed with the large Japanese company Sojits Corporation with participation of the Governor of the Omsk region at the economic forum in Vladivostok, in September, so that to build a new phenol production site in Omsk based on the Titan group.
“In the meantime, residents have been complaining daily about emissions from unidentified enterprises for three years already, bad smell is felt in different parts of the city. The construction of another chemical production, which obviously will not improve the situation with air pollution, certainly, makes more people to worry about their health and the health of their loved ones,” Tatyana Nagibina emphasized.
It should be noted that in 2017, air pollution in Omsk exceeded the norm by 400 times. The Omsk branch of Yabloko regularly holds protests against air pollution, in addition, Chair of the regional branch Tatyana Nagibina is the author of the petition “We want to breathe!”.
