Electoral Commission is trying to deprive Yabloko and independent candidates of the majority in the local council of the Timiryazyevsky district, Moscow
Press release, 11.09.2017
According to Yabloko’s candidate for municipal deputy in the Timiryazevsky district Yulia Galyamina, the territorial electoral commission made a decision to recount the votes at the polling station No. 435. As a result, the coalition of Yabloko deputies (five candidates were elected; there are 15 members in the council on the whole) and 3 independent candidates may be deprived of the majority in the council.
Galayamina claims that a lot of violations took place during the recounting. “When I arrived at the territorial electoral commission there were its members as well as members of the district electoral commission No. 435. A pack of ballot papers was open – there were no witnesses, the election observers were not informed about it. This is a violation of law.”
Yabloko election observers demanded that the recounting must be stopped but their appeal was ignored. Yulia Galyamina called the police but instead of preventing the violation of law police officers forced Galyamina out of the building.
After the votes were recounted it turned out that a United Russia’s candidate Marina Moskvina received the majority of votes. Thus, an independent candidate Olga Samsonova was deprived of the mandate. Before that the majority of mandates belonged to Yabloko and independent candidates – 8 places out of 15.
“United Russia cannot accept the fact that they lost the Timiryazevsy district,” Galayamina summed up.
On the whole, Yabloko received 181 mandates in 51 districts of Moscow. Yabloko received all 12 mandates in the Gagarinsky district, where Vladimir Putin voted. The party won the majority in five municipal units of Moscow.
