Yabloko Chair demands that the residents of substandard housing in Stavropol must be rehoused
Press release, 03.08.2017
Yabloko Chair Emilia Slabunova sent a request to Governor of the Stavropol Territory Vladimir Vladimirov and the regional prosecutor Anatoly Bogdanchikov calling them to initiate a check of an apartment block at Number 6 Brusneva Ulitsa, Stavropol, which the authorities refuse to declare substandard housing despite its condition.
The residents of the apartment block appealed to Yabloko’s liaison office for support. They had appealed to all the levels of authorities, including the courts, with a request to declare the apartment block unfit. However, the experts of the OOO “KB Ivlev”, the constant partner of the city administration, have strong objections to it and insist on repair works.
The officials of the city administration prevent declaring the apartment block unfit. They privately acknowledge that the city budget has no funds to rehouse the residents.
According to the official data, only one apartment block has been declares unfit since 2012. However, there are many failing buildings in Stavropol.
Living at Number 6 Brusneva Ulitsa puts the lives and health of the residents at risk.
“Our children and we are afraid to fall asleep at night because we can hear the crack of the walls and the roof. There is a possibility that the building may collapse,” the residents explained.
Emilia Slabunova calls the Governor and the prosecutor of the Stavropol Territory to initiate a check and take the appropriate measures.
