Candidate for Mayor of Moscow from the YABLOKO party Sergei Mitrokhin in his speech before journalists at the end of the voting day thanked Muscovites who supported him in this election. “I think they are the most intelligent people in Moscow who, on one hand, realise the threat the present political regime its political representative [the acting Mayor] Sergei Sobyanin present for Moscow and, on the other hand, these people do not follow provocateurs understanding what populism and nationalism are about,” Sergei Mitrokhin said.
“Maybe there are not so many such [thinking] people today, but future belongs to them, and I am proud of the fact that they have voted for me today. Today it may be a few percent, but in the future they will constitute the majority,” he stressed.
Sergei Mitrokhin also expressed his certainly of that he won “yet not actual, but the moral victory”.
According to Mitrokhin, “for the past 20 years of first Boris Yeltsin’s and then Vladimir Putin’s regime the society was brought into a condition of disorganisation, mental chaos and insanity”. “But for me it is encouraging that there are people who can resist this chaos. For me this is an optimistic signal. We will rely on these people. They are the future, and there is not future for those rushing between unfounded political slogans, for populists and nationalists, they mean only chaos and the end of Russia,” Sergei Mitrokhin said.
