Yevgeny Vitishko held a press conference in Krasnodar
Press Release, January 21, 2014
Yevgeny Vitishko, activist of the North Caucasus Environmental Watch, convicted in the so-called the “damaged fence” case [an inscription on the fence of Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachyov] held a press conference in the regional office of the YABLOKO party in Krasnodar on January 19, 2014.
Yevgeny Vitishko spoke about the recent developments in his case and the decision of the court of December 20, 2013, which replaced a suspended sentence for Vitishko by three years of imprisonment. At the time of the press conference there was no information on the date of examination of Vitishko’s complaint against this decision. Later there came information that the complaint would be considered on February 22, 2014. Since the case against Vitishko is political in nature, there is a hope that this decision will be changed only in connection with the international concern over the persecution of the Greens on the verge on the 2014 Olympics.
The press conference was attended by members of the Bureau of the YABLOKO party: Boris Vishnevsky, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg, Olga Tsepilova, Deputy Chair of YABLOKO’s Green Russia faction, and Andrei Rudomakha, Coordinator of the NGO the North Caucasus Environmental Watch.
