On 28 January, the Moscow branch of Yabloko Youth showed a movie called Wakolda (The German Doctor) in YABLOKO’s main office.
Deputy Chair Of the Moscow youth faction Maria Yefimova told the audience about the activities of YABLOKO Youth and the political views of the organisation. Chair of Moscow YABLOKO Youth Nikolai Kavkazsky stressed the necessity of struggling against chauvinism and xenophobia.
The historic drama Wakolda directed by Lucía Puenzo tells about the life of the Nazi war criminal Josef Mengele, infamous for performing human experiments in the Auschwitz concentration camp, after his escape to Latin America. The film was selected as the Argentine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
Plot:
Set in 1960, the film depicts Mengele during his exile in South America. Having adopted a new identity, he moves into a Patagonian hotel run by German-speaking Eva and her husband Enzo, and becomes particularly interested in their daughter Lilith. Having won the family’s trust, Mengele finds a reawakened interest in human genetics research.
