Yabloko starts litigation for the return of direct mayoral elections in Krasnoyarsk

Maxim Bombakov, an activist of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Yabloko, sues for the return of direct mayoral election in the Siberian city of Kransnoyarsk. The regional court requested to bring the Kransnoyarsk Territory Legislative Assembly into the proceedings.
Yabloko’s Maxim Bombakov took legal action against the law adopted in 2014, which allows to elect heads of municipalities bypassing direct elections. A representative body of a municipal entity elects mayor by means of competition instead.
“This is the second time that I take legal action against the infamous law and try to return direct mayoral election in the city. My first application was not considered,” Bombakov said.
