Yabloko MPs of the Moscow City Duma demand from the Moscow authorities to proceed from the presumption of innocence of citizens and check digital passes introduced during COVID-19 epidemic selectively
Press Release, 15.04.2020
The Yabloko faction in Moscow City Duma appealed to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Oleg Baranov, head of the Moscow Central Internal Affairs Directorate, in connection with large queues of passengers to enter metro stations and traffic jams at entrances to Moscow that emerged on April 15 after the introduction of digital passes introduced by the Moscow authorities during the COVID-19 epidemic.
The appeal runs that the measures taken by the authorities not only fail to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, but also create special favorable conditions for the growth of the incidence of the disease.
Yabloko MPs believe that the efforts of the police should be targeted “not so much at checking passes and bringing citizens to administrative liability, but to prevent social crowding and ensure social distancing in the city”.
Yabloko demands from the Moscow authorities to proceed from the presumption of innocence of citizens and check digital passes introduced during COVID-19 epidemic selectively. According to Yabloko MPs, checks should be carried out not only in front of the entrances to the metro stations, but also inside the stations.
At the same time, the appeal emphasises that members of the faction are not supporters of the idea of digital passes in principle.
