Yabloko deputy headed a municipal council in Moscow for the first time
Press release, 20.09.2017
On 19th September, Yabloko’s municipal deputy in the Gagarinsky district Elena Rusakova was elected head of the municipal council by secret ballot. Rusakov is one of the most active and effective municipal deputies in Moscow. She was elected to the municipal council for a second term.
Yabloko gained all 12 seats in the Gagarinsky district. The party gained four times more votes than the ruling party at the polling station where Vladimir Putin had voted.
Rusakova emphasized several issues that the previous council failed to solve. In the first place, she spoke about the issues of land use and illegal development as well as city improvement.
She also stressed that the new municipal council should make effort to win back the powers of local self-government that were passed to the prefectures and the city hall.
Yabloko deputies also have a chance to head the municipal councils in five more districts of Moscow.
