YABLOKO demands to file a criminal case against those who attacked candidate for Moscow City Duma deputy Vera Kichanova
Press Release, 07.07.2014
YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin forwarded an appeal to the Main military investigation office of the Investigative Committee demanding to conduct a check and take measures against the security officers of a shopping centre who attacked the candidate for Moscow City Duma deputy Vera Kichanova when she collected signatures for the registration.
Sergei mitrokhin considers it is necessary to file a criminal case under part 1 Article 141of the Russian Criminal Code “Obstruction of the exercise of electoral rights and use of violence “. The maximum punishment for that is five years in prison.
The incident took place on June 5 outside Skhodnenskaya metro station. A man who introduced himself as a security guard at a nearby shopping centre demanded the activists to leave the territory. Kichanova showed the man her municipal deputy card but he ignored it and threatened to call the police. Instead of the police he called a well-built bald man who started to twist the activists’ arms, pulled Vera Kichanova away from the table by her hair and tore the subscription lists with about 40 signatures, tore all campaign materials and turned over the chairs.
The administration of the shopping centre admits the guilt of their employee. However, he was not dismissed.
