Press Release, 27.03.2018
Yabloko party Chair Emilia Slabunova sent an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin demanding to dismiss Governor of the Kemerovo region Aman Tuleyev “in connection with the loss of confidence” after the tragedy in Kemerovo, where several dozen people died in a fire in the shopping mall Winter Cherry.
Slabunova also demanded that the President should dismiss Vladimir Puchkov, Minister of Emergency Situations, and heads of the Main Directorate of the Ministry for Emergencies of Russia in the Kemerovo region “in connection with their incompetence” to their posts.
Yabloko Chairperson also stated that the lists of all the victims and those missing in a fire and daily reports on the investigation of the circumstances and causes of the fire in the Winter Cherry should be published.
Emilia Slabunova proposed to create a Public Commission, including representatives of opposition political parties in order to ensure public control over the investigation. The politician sent this appeal to Tatyana Moskalkova, Human Rights Ombudsman, Anna Kuznetsova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights, and Mikhail Fedotov, Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights. A copy of the document was sent to President Vladimir Putin.
“I am ready to personally join such a commission,” Emilia Slabunova emphasized.
Yabloko is also ready to delegate party members-representatives of the human rights movement to such a commission.
