Vologda branch of YABLOKO against Good People foundation persecution
Press Release, 17.04.2014
Chair of the Vologda branch of YABLOKO Roman Morozov claims the persecution of the Good People charity foundation is politically motivated. It started after head of the organization Roman Romanenko sent a humorous letter to Vladimir Putin asking to send troops to the Vologda region.
“It’s obvious that the repressive mechanism is set, the documents of the organisation were confiscated, relatives of the dead people, seriously sick people after surgeries are called for questioning. I’ve helped the foundation more than once and I’m certain about the honesty of its employees. The Good People carry a transparent policy. The financial report can be found on their website,” said Roman Morozov.
Roman Romanenko announced that the prosecutors try to accuse him of fraud (article 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia), misappropriation or embezzlement (article 160), the legalisation (laundering) of funds and other property acquired by other persons in an illegal way (article 174).
Earlier Romanenko was called to the prosecutor’s office several times after he had published a letter to Vladimir Putin on Facebook when the President had received the permission of the Federation Council to use the Russian armed forces in Ukraine to protect the Russian-speaking population. Romanenko called the Protector of the Constitution to send troops to the Vologda region instead of Ukraine. “We are all Russian-speaking and our rights are violated seriously,” he wrote.
