The Yabloko Party University will host a lecture by Alexander Gnezdilov on war in the history of world drama
Press Release, 19.04.2022
On 26 April, the Yabloko Party University will host an online lecture “Theater of War. Bloodshed in the Art of Drama and the Art of Drama in Bloodshed”. The lecturer is Alexander Gnezdilov, theatre director, artistic director of the Nest Creative Association, editor-in-chief of the Smart Power Journal, and a member of the Federal Political Committee of the Yabloko Party and the Public Constitutional Council. The lecture will begin at 18:00 MSK.
The suffering of innocent peaceful people and contradictions in the soul of a warrior, the concepts of an enemy and a duty, peace and heroism, heroism and violence, and the absurdity of organised slaughter between peoples… These questions have continuously been the plots of both the art of drama and the stage for all the 2,500 years of the history of the world theatre.
How have they been comprehended on stage from Ancient Greece to Europe of the 20th century and from medieval Japan to the present day?
Why is it possible to ban words and texts, but not meanings and values?
Is it possible to become a propagandist in art while remaining an artist?
How does the theatre glorify military actions and fight for peace today? What will happen to the Russian art tomorrow?
