Press Release, 22.04.2019
On 20 April, a rally of the city opposition was held in Vologda under the slogan “We demand!”. The speakers demanded that the authorities abolish their tariffs for garbage collection and revise their project for improvement of the Vologda embankment.
Members of the Vologda branch of Yabloko took part in the rally.
Mikhail Dorofeyev, Chairman of the Vologda regional branch of the party, criticized the demographic policy of the regional government.
“According to the official forecast, the population of the Vologda region will be falling by 5,000 people annually in the next 15 years. This corresponds to the size of a small district centre or a rural settlement.
The population of the Vologda region has decreased by 100,000 people over the past 20 years of Putin’s rule,” Mikhail Dorofeyev noted.
The leader of the Vologda branch of Yabloko called not to give a single vote to the ruling party in the upcoming elections of 8 September.
Nikolai Smirnov, member of the Yabloko party, spoke about dust and dirt on the Vologda roads. He noted that residents of Vologda had been living in unsanitary conditions and stressed that the residents of the city had been put in such a situation by the city authorities.
The rally of the Vologda opposition “We demand!” of April 20 was the third such action. Several social movements and regional offices of political parties plan to regularly organise protests against the “garbage reform”, high tariffs on utilities and other numerous problems of the city until the demands of the residents of Vologda are heard.
