The Ryazan branch of Yabloko: The regional Ministry of Education failed to properly organize distance learning
Press Release, 23.04.2020
Nearly 21 million roubles are allocated in the budget of the Ryazan region for the project Digital Educational Environment in 2020. “At the same time, distance education of children in the context of the coronavirus epidemic in the region was completely failed by the Minister of Education Olga Schetinkina,” say the activists of the Ryazan branch of the Yabloko party.
In most schools, children are simply given homework, the responsibility for their education is completely shifted to the parents.
The decision to switch to distance learning was made on March 23. However, it had been clear at least a month before that that the likelihood of such a decision is extremely high, but no preparation had been carried out in the ministry.
“Nothing has been done. The best thing that can be done now is to distribute the money intended for digitalisation to especially needy families with children and dismiss Olga Shchetinkina,” stresses Konstantin Smirnov, Chairman of the Ryazan branch of Yabloko.
According to the regional branch of the party, it was necessary:
- Begin training teachers and children in advance to switching to training through ZOOM and other electronic platforms.
- Identify in advance families that do not have or lack enough gadgets for distance learning, and give them equipment at least for temporary use.
