Press Release, 10.09.2019
Yabloko conducted two election campaigns in the Sverdlovsk region. Irina Skachkova, Deputy Chair of the regional branch of the party, ran for the State Duma in Serov single-mandate constituency No. 174, and Dmitry Golovin ran for the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk region in Ordzhonikidze single-mandate constituency No. 11.
Irina Skachkova was able, in record time (1.5 months of the election campaign) and a modest budget, to gain the trust of almost 4,000 residents of Serov, Kachkanar, Ivdel, Nizhny Salda, Krasnoturyinsk and other cities of the Northern Urals, who voted for her. During numerous trips and meetings with voters, many problems were revealed in different fields: environment, medicine, education, population outflow, etc., which the Sverdlovsk Yabloko will continue to deal with. Moreover, the number of supporters of the values and goals of Yabloko in Serov and Tavda was so high that Yabloko opened its local branches there. Negotiations are underway on opening of Yabloko branches in the city of Lesnoy and other cities of the Northern Urals.
Dmitry Golovin, member of the Sverdlovsk Yabloko, showed good results in Yekaterinburg, at the elections to the regional Legislative Assembly. Golovin obtained 14 per cent of the vote and came third. At the same time, the turnout was only 12%, which played into the hands of the “party in power” and slightly hindered the opposition candidates.
Dmitry Okatiyev, Chairman of the Sverdlovsk branch of Yabloko, noted that in general the campaign of Yabloko was successful.
“It was expected that we would not succeed in overcoming the administrative resource, represented by the regional authorities and the multimillion-dollar infusion of oligarchs. However, the ultimate goal of the campaign this year was completely different. Nevertheless, we want to express our deep gratitude to all the voters in the Urals who have entrusted us with their voice,” he said.
“The party once again reiterated that ordinary people are able to break the existing “system” and make their own independent choice! ” Dmitry Okatiev added.
A single voting day of September 8 was successful for the Yabloko party. The party was able to double the number of deputies of regional parliaments, the number of regions where the party is represented in the legislative assemblies increased from three to five. In addition, candidates from Yabloko were elected heads of three districts of the Pskov Region, and 26 candidates became municipal deputies in nine regions of the country. The results of the municipal elections in St. Petersburg, where the party has nominated 480 candidates, many of whom have chances to become deputies, remain unknown.
