The Omsk branch of YABLOKO conducted pickets demanding from the city authorities to clean the city
Press Release, 18.04.2017
On 17 April, Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the Omsk branch of YABLOKO, and activists of the regional party branch conducted picketing demanding from the city authorities to clean the city and create a favourable environment for city residents.
Participants of the action came out with posters “The city is not only the central highway!”, “The new mayor, clean up the city!” and “Omsk needs clean air and clean streets!”.
“We, the residents of the city of Omsk, declare that Omsk is a territory with an unacceptably high level of pollution and, consequently, is a city with unfavourable living conditions,” Tatiana Nagibina said.
The activists believe that the Mayor’s Office does not properly address the city development problems, as well as maintenance and repair of the infrastructure, and the sanitary situation in the city, so there is a lot of dirt and garbage in Omsk.
According to the activists, “Dump sites spontaneously emerge in the city, as garbage is not timely collected, and places for garbage collection are not fenced. Strong winds disperse garbage over long distances, and the city turns into one large landfill.”
On Saturday, April 22, YABLOKO activists will take part in the subbotnik (cleaning of the city by the efforts of city residents).
