Press Release, 25.05.2020
Chair the Omsk Yabloko Tatyana Nagibina sent an appeal to President Vladimir Putin, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Dmitry Kobylkin, and Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage. The leader of the regional branch of Yabloko calls the authorities to adopt measures for reduction of pollution of the Omsk air by vehicles exhaust gases.
According to the Chair of the Omsk branch of Yabloko, it is necessary to carry out raids to control the content of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons for vehicles with gasoline engines emitting an increased concentration of harmful substances in exhaust gases.
“Since technical inspection of vehicles is carried out in the period from one to three years, the owner of the vehicle does not always carry out control on compliance or non-compliance of his car with technical standards for the emission of harmful substances into the air. The evidence of this is that for some vehicles, including passenger vehicles, the exhaust gas can be seen with the naked eye in the form of a black or gray cloud with a characteristic odour,” Tatyana Nagibina said.
It should be noted that in 2017, air pollution in Omsk exceeded the norm by 400 times. The Omsk branch of Yabloko regularly holds protests against air pollution, in addition, Chair of the regional branch Tatyana Nagibina is the author of the petition “We want to breathe!”. In October 2019 the residents of Omsk went on a protest action against air pollution organised with the support of Tatyana Nagibina, Chair of the regional branch of the party. Tatyana Nagibina published an investigation on the construction of a phenol plant in Omsk, and Yabloko members also inspected the industrial area of the city.
