Press Release, 17.08.2020
On August 15, Batyr Boromangnaev, Chairman of the regional branch of the Yabloko party in Kalmykia, held a single picket of solidarity with the protest of the people of Belarus in Elista. Batyr Boromangnaev held a plackardr “Freedom to the people of Belarus!”.
“It is close to me that hundreds of thousands and already millions of Belarusians have not accepted large-scale falsifications and boldly went out and continue to go out, despite the brutal actions of the police and special forces, expressing their civic will for change, for a change of power in Belarus”, Batyr Boromangnaev noted.
“The picket was generally greeted positively, passing cars honked in support, passers-by made remarks in support of the people of Belarus, demanding fair elections, revision of the results of the presidential elections in Belarus and indignation at excessive violence by law enforcement agencies. Among the people who passed and drove by, however, there were those who advised me to go home “to Belarus”, who did not know at all what was happening there, and who believed that the West was pushing Belarusians to a riot, ” the Chairman of Kalmyk Yabloko added.
Earlier, regional parliamentarians from Yabloko stated that the recognition of Lukashenko as the legally elected president of the Republic of Belarus contradicted the state interests of Russia.
