Sergei Mitrokhin demands that the election results in Babushkinsky single mandate constituency, Moscow, must be overturned
Press release, 05.10.2016
Moscow YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin filed a claim with the Moscow city Court demanding to overturn the election results in Babushkinsky single mandate constituency, Moscow.
Mitrokhin points out the violations which took place during the election campaign and on the voting day: a large number of media agencies carried a campaign in support of the ruling party and against YABLOKO under the pretence of giving information about the election. Millions of copies of such newspapers were handed out to the Muscovites. However, the Central Electoral Commission and the Moscow City Electoral Commission either ignored that problem or inflicted insignificant punishments.
The process of voting and counting of votes on September 18, 2016, are fare from satisfactory.
Due to the amendments to the electoral legislation the number of elections observers decreased, which made the voting procedure less transparent than during the parliamentary election of 2011.
YABLOKO registered a number of cases when candidates and elections observers where illegally removed form the polling stations. Moreover, a large number of people voted using absentee voting certificates.
Mitrokhin also enumerates other serious violations in his claim.
Moscow YABLOKO claims that it is impossible to define the will of the citizens of the Babushkinsky single mandate constituency taking the violations which took place into consideration.
Sergei Mitrokhin calls the Constituency Electoral Commission to declare the election result in the Babushkinsky single mandate constituency invalid.
