Sergei Mitrokhin calls the Central Electoral Commission to withdraw Moscow Mayor from parliamentary election
Moscow YABLOKO leader, parliamentary candidate Sergei Mitrokhin claims that the incumbent Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who is running in the parliamentary election, is abusing his position in office. Sergei Mitrokhin forwarded his claim to the head of the Central Electoral Commission Ella Pamfilova.
According to the electoral law, registered candidates who are holding public positions are to be released from their service during their participation in the elections. However, Sergei Sobyanin continued to perform his duties as a Mayor and used the advantages of his position during the election campaign.
For instance, on September 11 Sobyanin participated in the opening ceremony of the Moscow Central Ring railway.
Moreover, legislation prohibits registered candidates to work for charitable causes. Sergei Sobyanin violated the law by according free months’ travel by the Moscow Central Ring.
Therefore Sergei Mitrokhin claims that Moscow Mayor must be withdrawn from the parliamentary election.
[ed. It is likely that Moscow Mayor is using the so called “locomotive” principle – nomination of well known candidates, who should top the lists and attract voters’ attention to get their party to victory and than yield their mandates.]
