Sergei Ivanenko elected new Chairman of the Moscow branch of Yabloko

The Conference of the Moscow branch of Yabloko elected Sergei Ivanenko, Deputy Chairman of Yabloko, new Chairman of the party’s regional branch in Moscow for a two-year term.
Sergei Ivanenko is a Russian economist, candidate of economic sciences, Deputy Chairman of the Yabloko party and member of the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko. In 1993-2003 he was Yabloko MP of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
Ivanenko’s candidacy was supported by 56 per cent of the conference delegates. There was an alternative voting, 15 candidates ran for the post. Everyone was given the floor to speak.
Ivanenko’s rival in these elections was Oleg Novikov, researcher at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In his speech to the delegates, Sergei Ivanenko said that he sets himself the goal of finding interesting activities for everyone when fully following the basic political principles and tasks of Yabloko. “We all have common views and a common enemy – the present Russian system,” Sergei Ivanenko said.
Maxim Kruglov, head of the Yabloko faction in the Moscow City Duma, Andrei Morev, head of the Yakimanka municipal district, Irina Kopkina, municipal deputy of the Strogino district, and Kirill Goncharov, lawyer in the field of public administration, became deputy chairpersons of the Moscow Yabloko. Together with the Chairman of the branch, they will form the Bureau of the Regional Council.
Andrei Kosmynin, historian and political analyst, was elected member of the Federal Council from the Moscow branch.
Svetlana Gannushkina, renowned human rights defender, was elected delegate to the party congress (which will be held on 13-15 December) from the Moscow branch. This year, Gannushkina joined Yabloko as part of the “Make Your Voice Louder!” Campaign. In addition, 17 people were elected delegates to the congress beyond the quota in accordance with the party’s By-Laws: members of the federal governing bodies of the party, as well as Moscow City Duma deputies Daria Besedina and Maxim Kruglov.
