Politician, journalist and human rights defender Lev Shlosberg to be awarded Boris Nemtsov Prize

YABLOKO Federal Political Committee member, former deputy of the Pskov Region Legislative Assembly Lev Shlosberg has become the first prize-winner of the Boris Nemtsov Foundation, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees Vladimir Kara-Murza Jr. reported.
“Following the results of a secret preferential voting of the Board members the first winner of the Boris Nemtsov Prize for “courage in defending the values of democracy in Russia” was elected. Journalist, one of YABLOKO leaders, former deputy of the Pskov Region Legislative Assmebly Lev Shlosberg became the winner,” Vladimir Kara-Murza Jr. wrote on his Facebook page Monday.
He noted that the awarding ceremony would take place in Bonn, Germany, on June 12, Russia’s National Day.
The first meeting of the Boris Nemtsov Foundation’s Board took place in Berlin Sunday. Vladimir Kara-Murza Jr. was elected Chairman of the Board.
The Boris Nemtsov Foundation was founded by Zhanna Nemtsova, the daughter of the slain politician. The Foundation plans to work on educational activities, expert research as well as provide assistance to “political prisoners and people persecuted in Russia on political grounds”.
The prize for “courage in defending the values of democracy, freedom and human rights in Russia” will be awarded once a year.
