On 8 July, the Novaya Gazeta newspaper held a public opinion poll among the paper staff on the upcoming elections. Journalists were choosing by means of secret ballot the party list they would support, if the election took place next Sunday.
In general 52 out of total 142 people of the staff voted, thus the turnout was 36.6 per cent, with 6 per cent of spoiled “ballots”. The remaining votes were distributed as follows: YABLOKO received 51 per cent, The [entrepreneurs’] Party of Growth – 20 per cent, [the ruling] United Russia – 10 per cent, PARNAS – 9 per cent, Fair Russia and the Communist Party – 4 per cent each, and LDPR – 2 per cent. Statement by the 19th Congress of the YABLOKO party, 11.07.2016
Summing up the results of the work of the State Duma of the sixth convocation, the Russian United Democratic YABLOKO party states the negative influence which the deputies made on the public, political and economic life of the country.
The State Duma of the sixth convocation was the most incompetent, aggressive and ignorant in the history of Russian parliamentarism. There was no opposition, the faction voted indistinctly from each other, supporting the policy of Russia’s isolation from the civilized world, adopting inhuman and humiliating laws, introducing punitive measures and exactions from the citizens. YABLOKO Chair Emilia Slabunova and representatives of the party will submit the party lists of candidates for the State Duma to the Central Electoral Commission on 13 July at noon. Head of the Communists of Russia party Maxim Suraykin claims that YABLOKO’s registration must be revoked, Russian News Service reported yestersay. He forwarded an official enquiry to the Ministry of Justice and Prosecutor General’s Office demanding to check YABLOKO’s electoral programme for violation of Articles 280 and 280.1 of the Russian Criminal Code: public calls for extremist activities and public calls for actions aimed to violate the territorial integrity of Russia. The YABLOKO party has represented its coalition list of candidates for the State Duma deputies as well as 185 candidates in the single-mandate constituencies. The delegates were discussing the candidatures for 15 hours during the second day of the Congress, July 2. The discussion ended by ballot voting.
