Yabloko’s presidential candidate spoke about the new budget policy in Tomsk
On 16 November, Yabloko presidential candidate Grigory Yavlinsky came to Tomsk to present a section of his presidential programme devoted to the new budget policy. Speaking at a press conference for the local media, Yavlinsky formulated the criterion for his successful performance in the presidential campaign: if it is not possible to achieve a succession of power, then a change in the state’s policy – economic, external and internal – can be considered a victory, that would take place if millions of Russian citizens vote for the alternative to the present policies.Read more »
Presidential candidate Grigory Yavlinsky has become a guest of the federal television channel for the first time in a long time. In a live broadcast of the Russia-24 channel Yavlinsky spoke openly about inefficient economic and foreign policy and normalisation of relations with Ukraine and Europe, as well as low confidence of citizens in the state, the Russian establishment and the course of the presidential campaign.
Chair of the Moscow branch of Yabloko Sergei Mitrokhin has sent an appeal to State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin calling him not to postpone the consideration of the animal welfare bill.
St. Petersburg parliament voted down a bill obliging prison administrations to immediately inform prisoners’ relatives on their transfer to a colony. The bill was introduced by the Yabloko faction. The initiative was supported by 11 deputies out of 50. Read more »

The topic of sanctions has become a walking anecdote in the Russian media, especially the pro-Kremlin outlets, the subject of jokes and idle talk on the failure of the architects of these sanctions to comprehend the nature of Russia’s politics and economy. The main allegations are first and foremost that the sanctions are patently having no impact on the political decisions of the Russian powers-that-be, who never do anything under pressure, and secondly that they will fail to deal a significant blow to the Russian economy. Both these assertions are only partially valid and only for the short term.

On 9th November, a competition commission selecting candidates for the position of the Mayor of Omsk registered Sergei Kostaryev as candidate. Sergei is a member of Yabloko’s Federal Council, a prominent environmentalist and professor at Omsk State Railway Engineering University. He applied for the position of Mayor along with other 36 people. The next stage is an interview with the candidates that will be held on 17th November. On 22 November, the deputies of the local city council will elect the Mayor. Read more »
Sergei Mitrokhin, the head of Yabloko’s Anti-Corruption Policy Centre, demands that the information on the income of high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, including the income of the Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, must be disclosed. On November 7, the 100th anniversary of the October Coup of 1917, the Yabloko party commemorated the officers who defended democracy in Russia by resisting the Bolshevik coup in 1917. The activists brought flowers to the former building of Alexandrovsky college, the headquarters of the armed resistance to the Bolsheviks. Read more »

Independent politician Dmitry Gudkov expressed his support for Grigory Yavlinsky’s initiative for the return of direct elections of mayors, governors and members of the Federation Council – without any restrictions or filters. Gudkov remined that when he had been an MP he had initiated a draft law on returning direct elections. Read more »
A decision to form a faction of the Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko was made at the meeting of the municipal council of the Chekhov district, the Moscow Region, on 25th October. Deputies Nikolai Dizhur (who headed Yabloko’s list of candidates in the election of 10th September) and Yuri Burov (who won the majority of votes in a single-mandate constituency) entered the faction. Yabloko leaders and activists participated in an annual action commemorating victims of political reprisals. Thousands of people come to the Solovetsky Stone at Lubyanka Square to read aloud the names of the people who were executed during the Great Terror. This year so many people came that each person received a sheet of paper containing information about only one executed person – his or her family name, first name, patronymic, age, profession and obit. However, many of those who came were commemorating their relatives – those who died of were sent to Gulag.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service filed a case against the participants in the procurement of the Directorate of the Road Safety Improvement Programme (the Directorate). Earlier, Yabloko’s Anti-Corruption Policy Centre headed by Sergei Mitrokhin, member of Yabloko’s Federal Political Committee, revealed signs of collusion in the purchases of the Directorate for the amount of 38.5 million roubles. The head of the department is an official who was fired in 2008 from the road department of St. Petersburg for financial fraud.Read more »

Oleg Vinogradov, former Deputy Governor of the Yaroslavl region, former Vice-Mayor of Yaroslavl from the team of the oppositional head of the city Yevgeny Urlashov and leader of the Yabloko branch in Yaroslavl, put his signature in support of Grigory Yavlinsky’s campaign for the return of direct elections of mayors and senators of the Federation Council and cancellation of the municipal filter in the gubernatorial elections.Read more »
Sergei Mitrokhin, Chair of the Moscow branch of Yabloko and head of the Anti-Corruption Policy Centre of the Yabloko party, demanded that the Tushino Interdistrict Public Prosecutor’s Office obtain an order for demolition of illegal buildings located in the landscape reserve “The Valley of the Shodnya River in Kurkino” in Moscow and open the territory for free public access. Despite the decision of the court, a mansion of Major General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Anatoly Petukhov is still located in the landscape reserve. Read more »
