The Chernobyl tragedy made it into human history as one of the largest man-made disasters.

Due to the explosion of the 4th power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, hundreds of thousands of square kilometers of the territory of the former Soviet Union and other countries were contaminated with hazardous materials. As a result, a significant number of settlements had to be relocated. Millions of people have been exposed to radiation. Even today, the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster are present in the territories of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and other countries. The contamination of vast areas with radionuclides was accompanied by clearly identifiable negative consequences for public health and predicted risks of radiogenic diseases in the future around the world. On the police brutality on 21 April, 2021

Statement by the Yabloko Bureau, 22.04.2021

April 21 again became the day of the triumph of police arbitrariness in Russia. Once again, mass-scale, unmotivated detentions of participants in peaceful actions with unjustified and disproportionate use of force took place throughout the country.

We note the particularly brutal actions of the security forces in St. Petersburg against the backdrop of the relatively reserved behaviour of the Moscow police.

Chairman of the Yabloko Party Nikolai Rybakov spoke at a meeting of the Party Bureau on 22 April, 2021. In his speech, Rybakov assessed the President’s Address to the Federal Assembly.

According to Rybakov, Vladimir Putin’s address was no different from his messages of previous years – the President did not propose measures to get the country out of the crisis, and traditionally did not respond to the main problems that worry citizens: poverty, corruption, unemployment, and the inaccessibility of medical care.

“Putin promised to buy ambulances, but it is not clear how they will get to people along the broken roads,” Nikolai Rybakov said.

Photo by Alexei Kudenko / RIA Novosti

To what condition have they brought the country, so that in 2021, literally, a possible war with Ukraine is all over the news? What did the media need to be turned into so that they whipped up an atmosphere of hatred from morning till night – not only towards Ukrainians, not only towards the West, but also towards their own citizens who dare to speak up against the regime and against the war?

Dmitry Peskov’s [Vladimir Putin’s Press Secretary] statements that Russia “is not going to move” towards war with Ukraine, but “will not remain indifferent to the fate of Russian speakers who live in the southeast of the country” are not a sign of abandoning the planned scenario, but represent another bundle of firewood laid into the fire of war, which could flare up at any moment.
